The Dhow Palace Hotel is an original house set in the heart of Stone Town (the capital city of Zanzibar Island). The hotel is situated in the Shangai district of Stone Town, just off Kenyatta Road (10 minutes' drive from the international airport and 10 minutes' walk from the harbour.
The Background
The island of Zanzibar is known as the ‘Spice Island' because of its long-standing association with the clove industry. The Zanzibar archipelago also includes the neighbouring island of Pemba and numerous small islands off shore to include Changuu (Prison Island), Bawi, Cahwani (Grave Island), Tumbatu, Mnemba, Chumbe and the sandbanks of Nyange, Pange and Murogo.

Set around twin courtyards, the hotel offers 17 bedrooms, all with Persian carpets and antiques and most with large sultan-style double beds (air conditioning, hair dryer, mini bar (soft drinks only), telephone and satellite TV. Room service (limited), laundry service, safe at reception).

The dining room serves only breakfast, notice is required for lunch and dinner. The roof-top restaurant offers a variety of seafood, local and international cuisine as well as panoramic views of Zanzibar's Stone Town and the Indian Ocean.

The activities on offer include swimming, snorkelling, sea kayaking, diving, water sports, dhow trips and nature trails plus visits to a dhow workshop and the brooding caverns of the Mangapwani Slave Caves where slaves were hidden after the abolishment of slavery made their shipment illegal.
