Elsa's Kopje is named after Elsa the lioness who was made famous by George and Joy Adamson's biographical film "Born Free". Elsa's Kopje is almost invisible to the eye as you approach it's home on Mughwango Hill in Meru National Park. It blends into the rocky crags of the "kopje" (small hill), built very near to the site of George Adamson's original campsite. The cottages are the ultimate rooms-with-a-view, uniquely designed and crafted, incorporating the natural features of the rocky hillside. Each cottage has spacious double or twin beds with en-suite, elegantly appointed bathrooms. There is an open bar, lounge and dining room with an exceptionally inviting infinity pool overlooking the Meru plains.
Elsa's Private House is a spacious, stylish, exclusive hideaway set slightly apart from the main lodge. It has 1 double and 1 twin room both with en-suite bathrooms. There is a living and dining area, leading seamlessly outdoors into its own private swimming pool.

The Background
Meru National Park, in the old Northern Frontier District, is wild Africa at its most alluring. The animals are shy and unused to humans. Here you will find Elsa's Kopje, named for Elsa, the orphaned lioness reared by George and Joy Adamson and returned to the wild in Meru. This private hideaway is perched on top of Mugwongo Hill, site of George Adamson's first camp. This park is renowned for its low rainfall, yet at the same time thirteen rivers and numerous streams run off the nearby mountains to provide a landscape of arid land laced with ribbons of green.
Accommodation
The camp offers eight stone cottages (2 with twin beds, the rest with king-sized). All cottages have private bathrooms - 2 have baths and 6 have showers.
From your private cottage , placed well away from your neighbour, you will enjoy a 270-degree view of the surrounding park with its scattered kopjes and baobab trees. The open plan rooms are individually designed, incorporating the rocks into the structure. Traditional African-made furniture, bright fabrics and whitewashed walls are simple yet superbly comfortable and stylishly effective.
Elsa's Private House has 1 double and 1 twin with a shared sitting room, verandah and private swimming pool
