Location and season
This beach resort is just 30 minutes drive from Stone Town. There are regular flights to Mombasa and Nairobi and a ferry service operating between Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam and Pemba. Menai Bay is in the south-western corner of Zanzibar with Fumba to the west and Unguja Ukuu to the east. It encompasses several coral reefs offering rich marine life, a sea turtle breeding area and extensive mangrove forests.
Dhows also link Zanzibar with Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Bagamoyou and Mombasa. When to go: Zanzibar enjoys a typical Equatorial climate. From December to March the weather is hot and relatively dry. The cooler, dry period from June to October is also pleasant. Heavy rains can be expected from March to the end of May and short rains during the month of November.
The Background
The island of Zanzibar is known as the ‘Spice Island' because of its long-standing association with the clove industry. A low-lying stretch of land, approximately 37 km off the coast of Tanzania, it is a place of wonder, magic and mystery. Zanzibar Town, on the western side of the island is made up of a labyrinth of winding lanes, ancient stone houses, Arabian arches, heavy carved wooden doors, circular towers, narrow latticed windows, overhanging balconies and a fascinating selection of bazaars, curio shops, art galleries and spice troves. To the north of the town lie mile upon mile of pristine beaches, which end at the northern tip of the island with the dhow centre and tourist resort of Nungwi. Yet more stunning beaches lie along the eastern shore. The Zanzibar archipelago also includes the neighbouring island of Pemba and numerous small islands off shore to include Changuu (Prison Island), Bawi, Cahwani (Grave Island), Tumbatu, Mnemba, Chumbe and the sandbanks of Nyange, Pange and Murogo.

The lodge offers 20 rooms and six suites, all of which are presented in traditional Zanzibari style.
Dining and bars
The lodge offers the Dhow beach bar and swimming pool and an open-air restaurant offering international and local cuisine. The lodge prides itself on the level of its cuisine, which is a fusion of Mediterranean and Swahili cuisine. which makes use of fresh organic vegetables, fruits and herbs from the lodge's own garden, locally grown spices and locally caught fish, which is delivered daily and includes tuna, snapper, barracuda, lobsters, prawns and crabs.

What to see and do
Picnics and day trips
Take a traditional Zanzibari dhow to one of the many stunning archipelago islands. Trips include exploration of the Menai Bay area, home to the Bottlenose and Indo-pacific humpback dolphin.
Komonda Island Picnic
Take a motorized dhow to one of the largest and most abundant reefs in Menai Bay for a snorkel, and then on to the petrified coral islands of Komonda, including a mangrove forest tour. Buffet lunch provided.
Pungume Island
Take a motorized dhow to the Pungume reef for snorkeling, and then on to the sandbank with a 360 degree view of the turquoise blue Indian Ocean. Buffet lunch provided.
Fishing and snorkel excursions
Both deep sea and hand line fishing trips are offered. Snorkelling trips can be tailored to the visitors specification, with picnic lunch or fruit and cake.
Other attractions
The lodge has its own private spa facility and swimming pool. Kayaks and windsurfers available for rental. The lodge also has its own Dive Centre.
