The Satao Elerai Project is a community project that has been along time in the making. The project has been a concerted effort between the owners, The African Wildlife Foundation and The Elerai community. The concept is to provide a sustainable income from tourism for the Masai community in the area and to try and ensure that it is in the communities interest to protect the wildlife for generations to come.
Amboseli has been a location where human-wildlife conflict has been an issue for many years, and it is projects like these that can over time ensure that communities start to benefit from wildlife and to ensure they invest in protecting and securing their future for their own benefit.

Safari background
Amboseli National Park - Kilimanjaro's kingdom
Towered over by the magnificent bulk of Mount Kilimanjaro (5,896 m), Africa's highest mountain, Amboseli National Park is one of Kenya's oldest, famous and most-visited parks. Endlessly panoramic, yet comparatively compact, Amboseli National Park is dotted with emerald green swamps in which great herds of elephant wallow; half submerged in the papyrus grasses.
The permanent marshlands also provide a potent draw to a wide variety of wildlife, particularly hippos and buffaloes, while offering a haven for the abundant water birds. An International Biosphere Reserve, Amboseli National Park largely constitutes the usually dried-out lakebed of Lake Amboseli, which is surrounded by flat grasslands relieved by very few trees. On the plains are numerous antelopes, spotted hyenas, jackals, warthogs, olive baboons and vervet monkeys. Lions are rare. Observation Hill, a conical peak, which is easily climbed, offers stunning views of both the wildlife and Mount Kilimanjaro.
