Situated on Diani Beach, 34 km south of Kenya's bustling port of Mombasa, the Leopard Beach Resort & Spa enjoys a prime location on one of the world's most stunning beaches. Tropical gardens descend through water-garden terraces to the silver sand of the Indian Ocean below, where year-round warm waters, sheltered by the Kenyan barrier reef, offer endless opportunities for beach activities, diving and snorkelling. The resort itself offers a wide range of accommodation, two stunningly designed bars, numerous restaurants and a wide range of activities to include an international PADI dive school and world-class golf at the adjacent Leisure Lodge.
This glorious ribbon of silver and sapphire, crashing surf and bright coral embroiders the coast of both Kenya and Tanzania and is steeped in a turbulent history pre-dating Da Gama and stretching back into the sultry mists of time when leopards lived in the coral caves and elephants trooped the beaches. The resultant Swahili culture, a fabulous fusion of Arab, African, Portuguese and every other kind of colonial there ever was; has created a pace of life, a style of cuisine and a mosaic of architecture, heritage, myth and magic that is found nowhere else in the world.
Kenya's south coast, one of her most popular beach holiday destinations, offers clear blue sea, marine parks, excellent water sports, coral reefs, monsoon winds, numerous hotels and beach resorts, family vacations, sun and sand, cultural and beach travel and more. Close to Mombasa, it is also within easy reach of Malindi, Lamu, Diani and many other popular Kenya safari resort hotels.
Location and seasons The resort is situated on Diani Beach on Mombasa's South Coast and is easily accessible from: Mombasa Town (34 Km), the international airport (45 Km), and the local Diani airstrip (5 km). Kenya's stunning coastline (485 kms from Nairobi) runs 700 km between the Tanzanian and Somali borders and is renowned for its silken white sandy beaches, coconut palms, sheltered lagoons, pellucid blue waters, remote islands, uncharted mangrove swamps and mysterious Arab and Swahili ruins, many of which date back to the 8th Century AD. An idyllic climate cooled by the monsoon, the Swahili coast offers a daily average of 8 hours of sunshine, and the hot steamy climate is tempered by the monsoon winds: the south-easterly Kaskazi, which blows from April to October; and the north-easterly Kazi which blows from November to March.
The Background Kenya's pristine and well-developed coral reef extends virtually without break from Shimoni in the south to Malindi in the north, some 230 Kms in total. The reef is broken only in a few places by river mouths and creeks; and of these the deepest and most sheltered safe channels through the reef are those that lie on either side of Mombasa Island.
